Workspace
A workspace is the container for everything in TeamMate. Your company has one workspace. Inside it live every agent, every chat, every knowledge base, every workflow, every member.
When you sign up, TeamMate creates a workspace for you. You can rename it any time from Settings → Workspace General. If your company needs multiple separate spaces (for example, one per business unit), you can be a member of more than one workspace — the switcher at the top-left of the sidebar moves between them.
What a workspace owns
- Members with roles — Owner, Admin, Member. See Invite your team.
- Agents — every AI employee built or installed here.
- Knowledge bases — every document collection.
- Conversations — chat history for every member.
- Workflows and scheduled tasks — every automated job.
- Connected apps — Slack, Teams, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365, Odoo, etc.
- Credits — usage is billed at the workspace level, not per user.
A workspace is fully isolated by design. Two workspaces never share data, even on the same TeamMate installation.
When you need more than one workspace
You usually don’t. One workspace per company is the right answer in 95% of cases.
Reasons to actually have more than one:
- Multiple legal entities under one corporate group — each needs its own billing, audit log, and members list.
- Hard data isolation between business units — e.g. a regulated subsidiary that must not share knowledge with the parent company.
- Sandbox separation — a “Production” workspace plus a “Staging” workspace where you test new agents before promoting them.
Members can belong to multiple workspaces with different roles in each. The workspace switcher at the top-left of the sidebar shows every workspace you have access to.
How workspaces relate to other concepts
- An agent belongs to exactly one workspace.
- A knowledge base belongs to exactly one workspace.
- A task or workflow belongs to exactly one workspace.
- A member can belong to many workspaces.
